We often look at cleaning as a dreadful, time-consuming affair; however, some people make things worse for themselves by going about cleaning the wrong way. Not only does this yield below average cleaning results, but it also means that all your time and effort has gone in vain!
Perhaps you haven’t done your research, or maybe you’ve just been settling for poor end results; whatever the case may be, we’re here to share some common cleaning mistakes that could be wasting your precious time! Read some important facts here.
This literally defeats the purpose of cleaning! If you aren’t cleaning your cleaning aids, don’t expect anything more than poor results! It doesn’t take long to give your cleaning tools a much needed to cleanse; in fact, simply soaking them in a diluted disinfectant for a couple of hours is a great way to clean and sterilize them. All you need to do is rinse off as much dirt/grease as you possibly can before soaking them in your chosen cleanser. After 2-3 hours, rinse them out and dry completely before using them again. This can be done for your scrubbers, sponges, mops, squeegees, bathroom brushes, etc. Avoid soaking all in one basin; clean each item separately or group like-items together.
Using Dirty Cleaning Tools
Do you find yourself spending far too much time on doing the dishes? Well, lots of people do! Even for those who have dishwashers, sometimes un-soaked dishes tend to come out with hardened food stains here and there. The trick is to allow dirty dishes to have at least 20 minutes of soaking time before you wash them by hand or load them in the dishwasher. You can do this by plugging your kitchen sink and filling it up with water and a little liquid detergent to make a soapy solution. Dishes that have had enough soaking time can be done in less than half the amount of time that you would typically spend on them!
Cleaning Un-soaked Dishes
Whether you’re doing windows or cleaning mirrors; if you don’t wipe the surface thoroughly prior to spraying on the cleaner, you’re asking for a mess! This is a must as the dust and dirt get smeared around, doubling the amount of time and effort you’ll need to clean it. Therefore, it’s important to wipe surfaces to remove as much dust/dirt as you can before cleaning them with a liquid cleanser.
Using Window Cleaner before Wiping the Surface
Many homeowners spend more time than they need to vacuuming floors because the bag/canister is full. In this case, the suction power of your vacuum cleaner decreases significantly which, in turn, leaves you vacuuming areas over and over again to clean them efficiently. As much as you may dislike emptying out the bag/canister, it has to be done if you want to vacuum quickly and efficiently!
Vacuuming with a Full Bag/Canister
This is a very common mistake made by homeowners the world over! Using excess cleaner on a surface can leave a film-like residue which dust and dirt cling to, making them harder to clean the next time around. Similarly, using too much detergent when doing laundry will leave soap residue on your clothes which requires another cycle to rinse off completely. Therefore, it’s important to know how much of a cleaner you need to use so that you don’t waste time trying to clean up the cleaner!
